North Dakota Drivers Education Practice Test

Using high beams is appropriate when there are no oncoming vehicles and it’s safe to do so because high beams provide greater illumination of the road ahead, which is beneficial for visibility in dark conditions. They allow drivers to see further and more clearly, helping to spot potential hazards such as pedestrians, animals, or obstacles. However, when other vehicles are present, using high beams can cause glare that reduces visibility for other drivers, making the use of high beams inappropriate in those scenarios.

This choice recognizes the balance between enhancing visibility for oneself while ensuring the safety and comfort of other drivers on the road. High beams should not be used in foggy conditions, as they can reflect off the fog and reduce visibility even further, which is why that option does not align with safe driving practices.
